Is sugar beet bad for my dog?

Sugar beet because of its name is often thought of as having a lot of sugar but in fact the ingredient used in our blends is actually very low in sugar as it is produced after the sugar extraction process. This leaves a high quality fibre source that contains both soluble and insoluble fibre.

Soluble fibre provides a good food source for the beneficial bacteria living in your dog’s digestive system and helps them to establish healthy populations in the large intestine. The soluble fibre also slows the digestion process, helping to maximise digestion and absorption of nutrients.

The insoluble fibre in sugar beet is also beneficial as it improves the absorption of water in the lower part of the digestive system which can promote regular bowel movements helping to manage both constipation and diarrhoea.

One further advantage of fibre sources like sugar beet is that they can help with weight loss. Sugar beet is a low calorie ingredient and as the fibre absorbs water it expands in size which can cause dogs to stop eating sooner as they receive early signals of being full.
